F-16
In December 1981, the government of Pakistan signed a letter of agreement for the purchase of up to 40 F-16A/B (28 F-16A and 12 F-16B) fighters for Pakistan Air Force. The first two F-16A and four F-16B two-seat trainers, were delivered to Pakistan on January 14, 1983. After the initial training of a nucleus of six pilots and eighty-seven technicians in the US, the PAF handled its own F-16 programme, for which it received a total of 12 trainers with 28 single seat F-16A. The delivery of this first contract of 40 aircraft was completed by mid-86, with their equipment comprising a wide range of sophisticated avionics such as the ALQ-131 ECM pod and the ALR-69 radar warning receiver. Apart from the AIM-9L Sidewinder air-to-air missile, armament provision includes the Thomson-CSF Atlis laser designator pods, a TV-type tracking system linked with a laser illuminator. F-16 is a multirole jet fighter sold to 24 countries around the world, according to its manufacturer, Lockheed Martin. Pakistan was the second nation (after Israel) to use the F-16 in combat.
